Fall 2025 League Formation

This critical phase involves finalizing teams, setting schedules, and ensuring appropriate competition levels. The goal is to provide a seamless and enriching soccer experience, fostering skill development and a passion for the game across Southern Minnesota.

2025 Fall Season Key Dates

  • Now Open: PlayMetrics player registration and team creation

  • Ongoing: Adult background check and registration with MYSA (annual)

  • August 8: Team entry deadline (9U-13U)

  • August 15: Team entry deadline (14U/15U with 8th Graders)

  • August 20: Initial schedules released

  • August 20-27: Rescheduling period

  • September 6: Season opening weekend

  • Mid-October: Season concludes

8th Graders and High School Soccer

  • Players who participate in their High School Soccer program cannot play SMSL Club soccer per High School rules.

  • Solution for 8th Graders who do not play/make high school soccer this fall: Clubs can form 15U teams to compete in the 14U league flights (Divisions 2 and 3). We will allow teams with these issues to enter August 15th, after high school tryouts.

9U / 10U Fall Season Academy Weekend Days (six games)

  • 2025 Academy Weekends: Scheduled and published approximately 7–10 days prior to each event will roll out progressively for the next event. Teams will play two games per weekend day and have at least one game slot off between matches.

  • Saturday September 6 (Boys 10U and 9U) and Sunday September 7 (Girls 10U and 9U) at Owatonna.

  • Saturday September 20 (Girls 10U and 9U) and Sunday September 21 (Boys 10U and 9U) at North Mankato.

  • Saturday October 4 (Girls 10U and 9U) and Sunday October 5 (Boys 10U and 9U) at Rochester.

  • 100% club pass allowed for developmental reasons—players may shift between teams.

  • This Developmental model is great for team and pool training and introduces families to understand game protocols in a travel/tournament event. Competition style allows  clubs to evaluate players for winter/spring/summer planning. USYS passes included for tournament eligibility.

11U and Older - Traditional Schedule (six games)

  • Teams (11U–15U) will follow a traditional six-game, six-date format.

  • Age groups will be flighted as 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U/15U.

  • SMSL has final authority to place teams in Division 2 or 3

  • Proper team leveling remains a key priority to ensure balanced competition.
